Donna K Freeman | Movement, Longevity, and Applied Neurology Expert

I’ve spent three decades on the mat, and if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s this: Yoga isn’t about the perfect pose; it’s about how you feel on the inside. Whether you’re a total beginner, a seasoned pro, or someone who thinks they’re “too stiff for yoga” (spoiler: you’re not!), I’m here to be your guide. Think of me as your biggest cheerleader and your knowledgeable older sister rolled into one. We’ll keep things playful, skip the judgment, and focus on what your body needs today.

The Bridge Between Ancient Wisdom and Modern Resilience

For 30 years, I’ve been a student, teacher, and trainer of teachers. As the founder of Yoga In My School, author of Once Upon a Pose, and a podcast host, I’ve dedicated my life to the intersection of pedagogy, neuroscience, and the human nervous system.

I’m here to help you bridge the gap between “getting by” and truly thriving. By blending applied neurology yoga with a playful, inclusive approach, I help people of all ages reconnect with their bodies. Whether we are exploring nervous system regulation or the power of intentional rest, my goal is to help you feel steady, capable, and fully alive.

I’ve spent thirty years training the teachers. Now, I’m putting those same professional tools into your hands for your own real-life transitions.

From the Mat to the Mountains: My Journey

Here’s what 30 years on the mat has taught me…

I started in South Africa, not really knowing what I was looking for, just that I needed something. Over time, yoga met me in every season. Sometimes it was strong and fast, helping me burn off stress. Other times, it was slow and restorative, holding me together when life felt heavy.

Through raising four kids, life’s ups and downs, and rebuilding after divorce, the practice never asked me to be perfect, only present.

Years later, standing on Easter Island, I saw it clearly. This was never about the poses. It was about learning how to stay steady, no matter what life brings.

If you’re in a hard season, I’ve been there. There is a way through, one breath, one movement at a time.

A new beginning isn’t a loss of history; it’s the moment your years of wisdom finally meets your years of courage.

What I Know for Sure

Whether you’re here for a nervous system reset, looking for yoga for longevity, or just want to feel a bit more “springy” in your step, these are the truths that guide everything I do. Think of these as my “North Stars” for living a vibrant, connected life.

Movement is Medicine (But it should also be fun!)

I believe your mobility practice shouldn’t feel like a chore on your to-do list. Whether it’s gentle yoga, a brisk walk in the trees, or exploring your range of motion, movement is the best way to support aging well. If we aren’t smiling at least once during our practice, we’re doing it wrong!

Your Nervous System is the "Remote Control" for Your Life

In my 3B Method (Body, Breath, Brain), we treat the nervous system as the foundation of health. When you learn to regulate your stress response through applied neurology and breathwork, you don’t just move better, you sleep better, think clearer, and react to life with more ease.

It is Never, Ever Too Late to Start Something New

Whether you are 5 or 95, your brain and body are designed to adapt. From starting a meditation practice to learning how to support your joint health, “now” is always the perfect time to begin. Longevity is about the small, playful choices we make every day.

Rest is a Radical Act

In a world that tells us to keep “doing,” I believe the most courageous thing you can do is simply be. Intentional rest isn’t lazy; it’s essential maintenance for your soul. Whether it’s a “Soft Beginnings” session, a Guided Visualization, or five minutes of quiet breathing, giving yourself permission to pause is where the real healing happens.

Connection is the Secret Sauce

Whether we are connecting to ourselves on the mat or connecting to nature through forest bathing, we thrive when we are in relationship with the world around us. You don’t have to navigate your wellness journey alone, I’m right here with you.

You don’t need a new body. You just need to remember how to live in the one you have.
